ZWEI TELUM-FIGUREN AUS DER ASTROLABE BAI 
IN NORDOST-NEUGUINEA 
Durch einen Zufall erfuhr ich im vergangenen Jahr von der Existenz zweier 
Holz-Skulpturen, die aus dem Nachlaß von Hugo Zoller stammten, und von denen 
eine zunächst als afrikanisch (Kamerun) bezeichnet worden war. Beide Figuren be 
finden sich in Privatbesitz, und die Sammler haben freundlicherweise die Publikation 
dieser seltenen Stücke gestattet. Sie stammen unstreitbar aus dem Bereich der 
Astrolabe-Bai in Neuguinea. Sie sind also von Zöller während seiner Erst 
besteigung des Finisterre-Gebirges im Jahre 1899 erstanden worden. Er schreibt dar 
über in seinem Reisebericht: „Mit Geduld und Freundlichkeit gelang es uns, beim 
Rückmarsch vom Finisterre-Gebirge eine Menge jener alten Ahnenbilder, die oft
