As valuable as such ethnographic contributions may have be en ^, their time, they have marked only a beginning in relation to our p reS ^ day understanding of culture. There are now new anthropological p erS P tives and new cultural models that have been developed and that m uS ^^ taken into account by the professional anthropologist as well as by modem missionary. All ministers of religion (to use this more comprehen^ term) are challenged in their service to Anthropology by new and more cult tasks. They are called upon, for instance, to observe and desc culture change, economic development, educational processes, movements, and other complex and dynamic cultural phenomena. Supp ^ by training in modem Anthropology and the social sciences in general» ^ church worker will be far better prepared for his own specific work as __ sionary. In addition, ministers of religion need such training for their apP t tion of Anthropology and other social sciences, for instance in develop^ a projects. The Anthropos Institute, of course, can and wishes to P 1 g mediating and guiding role in this regard, especially through its pubh ca and other pertinent services. On the other hand, the Institute also is ea & ^ learn from the wealth of knowledge church workers often have regarding^ cultures of their particular areas and from their practical experience it 1 t0 ing with the economic, social, and especially spiritual spheres. say, the Anthropos Institute wishes to learn from all engaged in reS j c and application of research affecting man’s nature, his social and econ° life, and his higher aspirations. j^e As already mentioned, at the Vienna Congress Wilhelm Schmidt ^ of the need for widening Anthropology’s scope.
